Network license files ... LIC DAT ... ;-)

The license dat file (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\NetService\AdskNetSrv.dat) is a cached version of the lic file including an array of environment variables and cascading Autodesk application codes, .. the local lic file which resides in the program directory, is a simple text file which points to an organizations servers to retrieve licenses from, the problem is keeping this one text file maintained. If you make changes to an organizations network license server infrastructure, or as you migrate to newer releases of Autodesk’s products the license file will have to be copied/updated/modified to ensure consistency, .. this can often lead to an automated method of scripting which should determine:
•    the application installed
•    the OS in use
•    32bit or 64 bit
Once those variables have been determined, the proper LIC file can then be copied over, .. although not an impossible task, the resultant script file or batch file can often be two or three times the size of a script file which will accomplish the same simply by assigning environment variables.

The essential steps for REVIT Network license support are outlined on Autodesk’s website which also include deleting the lic file:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=13744786&linkID=9243099

The following Autodesk support file describes briefly what the dat file consists of:

Additional information as to the sequence of license retrieval can be found at the following:

REVIT VSTA Code to load a form via a macro

One of the tricks in my AU Class discussed how to display a Windows Form in REVIT .. the following code describes adding a form and passing to it the Active REVIT document as a variable so you have access to the doc from the form:

In the NEWLY Placed form :

Public Class Form1
    Public myDoc As ThisDocument = Nothing

Call it like so from your Macro:

        Dim myForm As New Form1
        myForm.myDoc = Me
        myForm.ShowDialog()

Updated Revit 2010 SDK .. 4-27-09

Somehow this snuck past me - there has been an update to the documentation in REVIT 2010, this is from TheBuildingCoder's blog :

Updated Revit 2010 SDK

An updated version of the Revit 2010 SDK is available. The changes mostly affect the documentation.

Note: the location of SDK has been changed to “\support\SDK” in Revit 2010. (In previous versions, it is under “\Utilities\Common\Software Development Kit\”)

You can also download the Revit SDK here:
